How
your work will be assessed:
Your completed report – which can
either be presented as a slideshow presentation or a word-processed report –
will be matched against the Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria shown in the
assessment grid.
To
achieve a Pass (7, 8 or 9 points) you must meet ALL the pass criteria (shown as
P1 to P5)
For
a Merit (10, 11 or 12 points) you must meet ALL merit and also all the pass
criteria (shown as M1 to M3)
For
a Distinction (13, 14, 15 or 16 points) you must meet all distinction criteria
and also all the merit and pass criteria (shown as D1 to D3)
|
P1
|
You
must comment on how the use of ICT impacts on your own life or that of
your family, friends and peers. This
should be related to the area you have researched rather than being a
broad summation of the effects of ICT in general.
|
|
P2
|
You
must use appropriate sources of information when researching material for
their report. It is
recognised that at this level you may need guidance in identifying and
selecting suitable sources of information.
|
|
P3
|
You
must briefly describe what improvements have resulted from ICT use in the
area that you have studied, and how ICT has brought these improvements
about.
|
|
P4
|
You
need only cover those areas that apply to the area that you have studied.
However, it may be useful for them to identify why a particular
aspect has not been affected by developments in ICT.
|
|
P5
|
Based
on your research of your chosen area, you should identify possible future
uses of ICT. This does not
have to be new technology, rather where existing technology could be used
in that area. You must also
relate current legislation to the ICT used, for example the effects of the
Data Protection Act on medical records held on computer.
|
|
M1
|
You
must independently identify and select appropriate sources of information.
You can check the accuracy or reliability of an information source
with your teacher if you wish.
|
|
M2
|
You
must plan the content and presentation of your reports so that your final
report is well structured and easy to follow.
You can use a proforma (click here
for a blank version to fill in) or produce outline plans of the
content and structure of their work to help you achieve M2.
|
|
M3
|
You
must describe and comment on both the advantages and disadvantages of the
use of ICT in the chosen area of study.
|
|
D1
|
You
must identify how the use of ICT impacts on wider society that is outside
of your own lives or that of your family, friends and peers.
This should be related to the area you have researched, rather than
being a broad summation of the effects of ICT in general.
|
|
D2
|
You
must evaluate how useful each source of information was to your research.
You may want to include comments on the reliability, accuracy or
currency of the information available, and other sources of information
that were not available but that would have been useful.
|
|
D3
|
This
may be linked to D2. You must
make suggestions as to how your research or final report could be
improved. This may relate to
content or presentation, but should not be trivial, for example ‘reprint
in colour’.
