Some advantages and disadvantages of email:

Advantages Disadvantages
It is quick and simple to use – sending an email takes just a few seconds. Beware of “junk mail” – also known as “spam” – when some organisations and individuals find out a user’s email address they will often add them to “mailing lists” and bombard them with emails offering goods or services.

You should read this article on the BBC website - about the 10 most annoying "spam" emails of 2002

It can be cheap – the cost involved in sending an email can be very small especially when it is written offline first.
Sending an email to more than one person is easy.  The email client software is able to store details of many email addresses – and the user can send the email to as many of these as they wish.   Some attachments to emails can contain viruses – the golden rule is never to download an attachment unless you know it is genuine – and it is also good practice to scan all incoming attachments with up-to-date anti-virus software to make sure it is safe to open.
A file can easily be “attached” to an email so that the recipient can share – for example – digital photos or an important business document.

In January 2003, Simon Vallor, a computer programmer from Llandudno in North Wales, was sent to prison for 2 years for creating and then releasing computer viruses, causing damage to thousands of computers all over the world.  Read this article on the BBC website.
