A wanted poster for the famous US hacker - Kevin Mitnick

Organisations frequently store data about individuals that is sensitive and must be kept secure.  For example employers may have records showing personal details of staff and also details of their salary and payments etc.  Medical records are increasingly stored on computer systems, whilst this is of great benefit to the doctors and medical professionals providing treatment, the information must not be seen by others.  It is important that any information stored is kept in secure conditions to avoid access by unauthorised people (eg. Computer hackers).  The Computer Misuse Act 1990 was introduced to help prevent and control this type of unauthorised access.
