Configuring a modem

  1. Install the modem - this may mean simply connecting an external modem to the USB or serial port and running the software "setup" program - or opening the main system case and installing the modem card in a vacant slot inside the computer - then running the setup program.
  2. Install the software provided by your ISP - Internet Service provider.  This is usually on a CDROM - ad you simply place the disk in your CDROM drive - and the etup program starts automatically.
  3. If necessary you will need to install the TCP/IP protocol.
  4. Enter your ISP telephone number when prompted - so that your modem knows what number to dial.
  5. Test it to make sure it works correctly
