Manage your work effectively

It is easy to create folders and sub-folders in your file storage area – whether this is on a network or in a “My Documents” folder of a hard disk.  A lot of time can be wasted searching for files that have been saved (and lost) somewhere – without any planning or organisation.

In addition, always save work with filenames that you will recognise and remember – this will help you to locate them faster when you need them again.

If you still have trouble finding work that you have stored carefully, there are built-in search facilities in most software to help you find the necessary file(s) by searching for the date and time the file was created, the filename or even some word or words that have been used in the file.

This screenshot shows a search about to be carried out - using Explorer - for all "doc" files saved anywhere inside the C:\My Documents folder (and in all the subfolders) where the letters "gnvq" appear together anywhere in the document.
