Network cards (sometimes known as Network Interface Cards - NIC): Each workstation that is connected to the network requires some extra hardware – known as a network card. This plugs into the motherboard inside the main system unit of the workstation.
A cable is then connected to the back of the workstation (into the back of the network card). This cable usually connects to a socket in the wall – but a cable then in turn connects the socket to the server – usually going through another network component called a hub.
