Network software:  With all the complicated extra hardware it isn’t too surprising that special software is needed to make the network run properly.  The servers must be running operating system software that makes it possible for the workstations to connect correctly.  Each workstation must also have the correct network software installed.  At Hyde we use Microsoft NT4 and Windows 2000 as the network operating systems, with Windows 95, 98 or XP installed on the workstations.
