This unit helps the candidate to understand the use and management of computers systems in local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs) and examines the communications equipment needed to make connections.

In this unit, the candidate will:
explore the operation and configuration of computer networks;
use the facilities provided in a computer network;
explore electronic communications systems;
learn how to set up a system for electronic communication.

This unit links with Unit 3: Hardware and software which introduces setting up stand-alone computer systems.

This unit is assessed through the candidate's portfolio work. The grade on that assessment will be their grade for the unit.
