The work of a Network Manager:  The list below gives some idea of the types of jobs a Network Manager will need to do.  You will be given an opportunity to interview (as a group) our school Network Manager and Network Technicians.  They will probably add several more jobs to the list:

     

Install new workstations

Install software on the network

Install software on workstations

Add new users to the system

Update usernames and passwords for students and staff

Monitor network use – including the use of the Internet  

Find large and unwanted files taking up valuable server storage space

Block unsuitable web sites – and track users who have tried to visit unsuitable sites (click for more information)

Carry out daily backups of all files stored on the network servers

Install and maintain anti-virus software to reduce the risk of damage by computer viruses

Repair faulty workstations

Replace printer toner and other consumables

Carry out routine maintenance on servers and workstations to ensure they do not fail when in use
