Chat rooms - the page they didn't want you to see........

You will probably wonder why the word chat is spelled c8at on this page.  WELL - It is so that you can see it as part of the website.  The RM web filtering software blocks the correct spelling when it is used alongside the word "rooms".  SORRY ABOUT THAT!  It has taken a complete rewrite of this page to make it possible for it to be part of the website.......

Chat rooms are a very popular use of the Internet – often they are linked to web pages - for example for pop groups or hobbies.  Chat rooms are areas of the internet which people can “visit” and exchange written comments and chat with others who have also joined the chat room.  Chat rooms can be set up and cover any subject or be aimed at any group of people – from kids to elderly people – however there is some danger in using chat rooms where young people may be tricked into believing that the person they are “chatting to” is someone of their own age when in fact it may be someone who is deliberately setting out to trick them.  There have been some examples of this in the news – this is a great website to read about some of the issues when using chat rooms: http://www.chatdanger.com/
