Web-based email:  Some email is web-based.  This means that the email address is obtained from a website (such as www.hotmail.com)   and the user must be online to make use of the email facilities. The advantage of web-based email is that it can be checked from any location in the world – so that a student at college can check their emails at home and on any of the college computers providing the computer has an Internet connection.

A very useful website is www.mail2web.com.  This allows the user to login to any of their email accounts and view any messages in the browser window.
