Design Brief

Audience:   Your target audience is the students at Hyde Technology School aged from 11 – 16

Topic:       An interactive multimedia presentation on one of your hobbies or interests.

Purpose:   Your presentation should be informative and designed in a way that will make your audience want to find out more about your selected hobby/interest.

Your presentation should be a PowerPoint slideshow.

You MUST include some interaction between the viewer and the presentation. This may be as simple as choosing from some options using buttons, image or text hyperlinks.

It MUST include text, graphics, sound and video/animation.

You MUST produce an outline design for the presentation - identifying its structure and content.

You are expected to demonstrate your ICT skills in using the authoring software (PowerPoint) to produce the multimedia presentation. You should not spend too long creating the presentation – most of your time is better spent on analysing existing presentations and designing your own.

What next

1. Decide on what your presentation will contain – you don’t need too much detail at first – just a general idea of what will be on each of your slides or pages.  For example you may have a start page/slide that includes a “menu” which you can use to select which slide you want to go to.  Look at the example presentation “hyperlinks made simple” and see how the buttons and hotspots work.

  1. Create a simple hand drawn design on the presentation planner and show it to your teacher. If it looks OK they will approve it and sign and date your design. If you make any changes to your design, while you are making the presentation, you must write about them on the back of the design sheet.
  2. Draw a “flow diagram” showing which how the user will move between the slides.  This can be very simple indeed and should only be done by hand – don’t try to do it “fancy” using ICT as it will not be worth any more marks!  See the example for the above presentation – “simple flow diagram
  3. Make a detailed list of the images, text and sounds/animations etc that you will use in your presentation.  You can bring in your own pictures and scan them if you want. Alongside each filename put details of what the file shows and where it will be used.  Open the file called “images and sounds used in slideshow
  4. Create your presentation using the plans you have made.  These plans should help you to link the slides/pages correctly and also to choose the best images and text for each one.
  5. Now print out your presentation as a “handout” showing 6 slides on 1 page.  Annotate your printout to show where you have used sound and animation/video - and make sure you show what methods you have used to make the presentation work effectively.
