PRE-RELEASE TASKS – INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES

Read these instructions carefully and then carry out the tasks. You should look at the assessment evidence grid for this unit to see what you are expected to be able to do for each grade.

You will need the work you produce when you take the examination for this unit.

When you have completed both tasks you must put your name, candidate number and Centre number on each page. Your teacher will collect in your work and return it to you at the start of the examination.

Your teacher must complete one Centre Authentication Form per class to confirm that the work is the candidates’ own work.

Task 1

Choosing the context and content of the document, you must produce a four-page Desktop Publishing (DTP) document to meet one of these briefs:

bullet

a newsletter, eg for a school, college, company or community group

bullet

a promotional brochure, eg for a product, service or event

bullet

a catalogue

bullet

a company report.

Your DTP document must include:

bullet

text, which can come from existing sources

bullet

at least three graphics.

You must produce:

bullet

a hand drawn sketch of the initial design for the DTP document

bullet

one draft version and one final version for each graphic

bullet

one draft DTP document and one final DTP document.

Your graphics must include:

bullet

at least one bitmap and one vector image

bullet

an edited scanned image or an edited digital photograph

bullet

an edited clip art image

bullet

a scale drawing you have created showing the scale and dimension lines

bullet

text combined with an image, eg a logo.

Your work must demonstrate:

bullet

at least two different changes to the DTP document

bullet

at least five different changes to your graphics, each using a different drawing facility or editing tool.

Use the checklists below to make sure that you have completed everything required for Task 1. You may use more tools and facilities than those given in the checklists.

Your printouts must not have any labels or further word processed or hand written information other than the page numbers and titles given in the ‘Preparing for the examination’ section.

If you label your printouts before the examination marks will not be awarded.

Task 2

You must complete a record of good working practice.

An example is provided for you on the next page.

Show how you followed these good working practices whilst producing your DTP document and graphics.

Explain why each of these good working practices is important.

Preparing for the examination

1. For the examination you will need:

(i) a photocopy or print of the original of any scanned material or digital photographs you used

(iii) one draft version and one final version of each graphic

2. Make sure your name, candidate number and Centre number is on each page.

3. Put your work in the correct order and number all pages.

4. Ensure your printouts do not have any other word-processed or handwritten information on them.

5. Hand your completed tasks to your teacher.
